Have you ever wondered why lipstick lasts on some people more than others? Is that the result of using a very expensive lipstick? Or perhaps the secret lies in how they are applying their lipstick. Today I am sharing some easy steps which I personally follow to make my lipstick last longer! Won’t you dive in to have a glance?

5 Simple Steps to Make Lipstick Last Longer

1. Scrub and Nourish

Nobody likes if their lipstick is sticking to dry flakes on their lips. Hence the first and important step is to scrub away the flakes on lips. Then moisturize them with a lightweight lip balm. Do this a few minutes before lipstick application. Before going to the next step use a tissue paper or the back of your hand to take away extra lip balm. This takes away the shine but leaves lips well nourished!

2. Prime to Prep

This step is to prep your lips. It’s best to use a primer specially formulated for lips to get the best results. But if you are not a regular lipstick wearer then you can also apply some of your foundation or a lightweight concealer on to your lips. This creates a nice and smooth base for your lipstick.

3. Outline and Fill

Use a lip liner, a shade similar to your lipstick to outline and fill your lips. You can also use a nude lip liner. But I suggest using a shade similar to your lipstick. This step will prevent your lipstick from bleeding from the edges. Also, it leaves a pretty stain behind towards the end of the day! Then go ahead with your lipstick application. I suggest using a lip brush to fill your lips like a Pro! Plus there won’t be any errors.

4. Blot with Tissue

Now use a tissue paper and gently pat it on your lips. Do not rub. Just gently pat. This takes away any shine or moisture from the lipstick. This step also mattifies your lipstick.

Another way to do this is- place the tissue paper against your lips and take some talcum powder onto your powder brush. Now gently pat whilst applying the powder onto the tissue paper. (I know this sounds crazy but trust me it works fab!)

5. Apply Lippie Again and Set with Powder

Now apply your lipstick again and apply powder on your lips to keep the lipstick in place. This also makes the lipstick transfer less. You can use your fingertips to gently pat the talcum powder on your lips. Anddddd…… you are done!

Final Note

I know this looks time-consuming but in reality, you are done within a few minutes! And when you are having that special occasion like a date then who wouldn’t wish their lipstick stay place and last long? Also, try to go less on oily food. Since the oil breaks down any makeup product. This is why many people need reapplication after having meals. Also, alcohol melts down the lip product. But if you have lined and filled your lips with a lip liner then you’ll have a beautiful stain left behind. Lemme know what would you like to add to this in the comment section down below! And what’s your favorite hack to make lipstick last longer? 🙂

I have never been much of a lipstick gal simply because I’ve never really known how to apply it properly. But as I get older I keep saying to myself, “Lindsay you should really jump of the lipstick bandwagon because it really does make ones face look very put together when having properly applied lipstick.” So I think im going to take your advice and run with it and give this lipstick thing a try! Thanks for posting!

  16. Erica (The Prepping Wife) says:

I seriously had no clue about these tips and tricks to getting my lipstick to last longer! I always wondered about it, but never knew. Thank you for teaching me something new today, Snehal! I will be implementing these great steps the next time I wear makeup and see how long it will last. I’m really curious now.

  17. Charmaine Daisley says:

There are so many new ways to use and apply makeup these days, and I’m always intrigued by the new techniques such as using lipstick as blush, using eye shadow as highlighter and applying milk of magnesia under foundation for better hold and tone. I’ve definitely never heard of your #5 before. Very interesting.

  18. Tracy C says:

I’d never heard of several of these steps, including the primer and the powder. Do you have to use talcum powder or can you use a cornstarch powder?

    • Snehal says:

No I suggest using normal face powder. Even baby powder would do. Since cornstarch powder is mainly used in food. So if you sweat or have oily skin it can lead to reactions.

  19. Diane C DeNicola says:

My lips are consistently dry so I am always in need of a good moisturizer beforehand. As for the powder, this is something I have known about but don’t normally do unless it is for a special occasion. Great tips that I will look to implement moving forward.
