A good quality and skin friendly face wash help in removing all the dirt, sweat and oil. Skin will always feel smooth and supple post wash instead of feeling taut or irritated. A face wash is the first product in a skincare routine. And no matter what your skin type is you must use one accordingly to maintain your facial skin’s pH level. It is suggested to never use a normal soap which you use daily on your body. Because that can be very harsh for your facial skin. In this post, I am sharing 3 tips for choosing the right face wash for healthy looking skin along with my personal favorite product recommendations.

How to Choose the Right Face Wash for Your Skin

1. Know Your Skin Type First

The very first step is to know your skin type. Here is a guide if you don’t know already- How To Know Your Skin Type- Normal, Dry, Combination or Oily Also note that our skin changes along with the climate.

For example, my skin is ‘oily’ in summer and monsoon seasons where my entire face gets oily. But as the temperature drops then mostly my T-zone gets oily and my cheeks turn of ‘normal’ skin type. So during the winters, my skin is ‘combination’ type. My skin is also sensitive and pimple prone so that remains common irrespective of the weather. (This is my observation but for you, it may be different!)

Please do not get confused with your skin type! If you assume that your skin is oily but in reality, it is of the normal type. Then you will be committing a mistake of using face wash meant for oily skin which could be ‘too stripping’ for you. It is quite common that sometimes we get confused and assume a wrong skin type. Hence you must monitor your skin once in a while to pick the right face wash!

Once you are confirmed with your skin type then look for a face wash that is specifically formulated for your skin type.

2. See for Other Benefits

A face wash may provide one or more benefits for the skin apart from cleansing. It could be anti-acne or tan removal or to rid dull skin or face wash with beads to improve blood circulation etc. So keep your skin type and skin concern in mind and try looking for a face wash from which you would benefit more.

For example, as I said my skin is oily, pimple prone and sensitive. I look for a face wash which is meant for oily skin and has anti-acne ingredients in it. At the same time, it is gentle enough for my sensitive skin.

3. Avoid Harsh Chemicals like Sulphates

Sulfates strip the skin of all the moisture and it also disrupts the skin’s pH level. If your skin always feels stretchy, irritated, or red after you wash then you need to check on the ingredients. This over times causes damage to the skin making it look dull. Hence read the ingredients before you buy a face wash. And always look for a soap-free formula to prevent this skin damage. These days there are many brands who are becoming aware of this issue and they are formulating face washes with sulfate free and paraben free formulas.

A great face wash really is the very first step in good skin care! I’ve tried several that I didn’t like because I have oily skin, and they just left my face still oily. I’ll definitely check out the one you’ve recommended here for oily skin. I really wish more of them were labeled as to what kind of skin they work the best on. That would be too easy. Lol.
